About The Position

Child development teachers will provide an educational classroom setting for young children (infancy through five years) and university students in a laboratory center designed to model best practices in the field of early childhood education. Using an emergent, negotiated curriculum, they teach individualized fundamental pre-academic skills and lead activities to promote language development, cognitive and perceptual development, and gross motor development in children representing a cross-section of backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school.
  • One year of related childcare experience.
  • Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in early childhood education or early childhood special education with practicum/internship experience and related teacher certification (e.g., birth-kindergarten certification).
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in a related field and two years of experience teaching children birth to five in a professional setting.
  • Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Teach individualized fundamental pre-academic skills.
  • Lead activities to promote language development, cognitive and perceptual development, and gross motor development in children.
  • Supervise college students who teach in the program for practicum experience (generally 2-3 per semester).
  • Coordinate child development lab experiences with university faculty from an array of disciplines (i.e. child development, early childhood education, art education, special education, human development, music education).
  • Supervise lab students from these various courses.
