About The Position

Under the general direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Early Childhood Aide is responsible for assisting the Early Childhood Lead Instructor in all aspects of the early childhood programs. This role requires a basic knowledge of Park District policies concerning early childhood programming, a sense of loyalty to the Park District and its programs, and the ability to assist in directing classroom activities positively. The aide must be flexible, adaptable, and able to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations. They should be able to analyze situations and make sound decisions, work harmoniously with all employees, and demonstrate a positive and cheerful attitude towards children and parents. A good attitude towards coworkers, self-motivation, punctuality, good attendance, and the ability to accept constructive criticism are also essential.

  • Strong awareness of safety procedures and the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to potential hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in cleaning and setting up the classroom before each program.
  • Assist in cleaning and setting up the classroom after each program.
  • Assist in record keeping, including attendance sheets and individual student records.
  • Keep informed on current teaching trends and incorporate them into the program.
  • Attend seasonal staff meetings.
  • Assist with maintaining supplies and equipment so they remain in a safe and workable condition.
  • Assist the Early Childhood Lead Instructor in areas which they require extra help.
  • Immediately report any and all major incidents to the Recreation Supervisor.
