Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Geologist / Hydrogeologist as part of our environmental practice in our Santa Barbara or Ventura, CA offices. The position will have the opportunity to apply geologic skills to projects involving contaminated site assessment and remediation; construction management; environmental compliance; and forensic investigations and litigation support, while developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology or geochemistry.
  • At least 2 years of related experience, which may include conducting field work, observation of drilling and well installation, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, soil vapor and indoor air sampling, and other field techniques, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated strong interest in contaminant remediation and quantitative hydrogeology.
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills.
  • Regular field work and overnight travel.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in the same.
  • Prior research experience in contaminated media or remediation technology.
  • Internship(s), co-op position, or prior work experience relevant to the position.
  • Experience with visualization tools (AutoCAD ArcView) and/or groundwater flow and geochemical modeling (Modflow, MT3D, geochemical equilibrium models).

Responsibilities

  • Field work, site investigation and characterization, including sediment, soil, vapor, surface water, air monitoring, and groundwater sampling, drilling and contractor oversight
  • Providing contamination assessment services, such as designing and implementing sampling plans, bench scale testing, and pilot test programs
  • Data analysis/visualization of site investigation data including the preparation of tables, maps, and figures using both industry-standard and cutting-edge applications
  • Monitoring and oversight of site remediation and environmental construction projects
  • Chemical data and contaminant fate & transport evaluation
  • Well installation, aquifer testing, and groundwater monitoring
  • Environmental due diligence, regulatory compliance services, and permitting
  • Conducting remedy evaluation, cost estimating, and supporting remedial implementation
  • Preparation of technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed
