About The Position

WSP is seeking an Early Career Geologist to join their Austin, TX SIR team. This role is ideal for a geoscience professional who will thrive in a field-based work environment and is eager to build a career supporting environmental investigation and remediation projects. This is a field-forward role. Candidates with strong hands-on experience such as field camp, field-intensive coursework, internships, or field-based research are strongly preferred. At WSP, they are driven by curiosity, powered by collaboration, and committed to delivering impactful environmental solutions. Their Site Investigation & Remediation (SIR) team supports public and private sector clients by evaluating and managing environmental risk through site investigations, data analysis, and remediation support across Texas and beyond.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a closely related field.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Strong interest in field-based environmental consulting work.
  • Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding field tasks (lifting equipment, extended walking/standing, outdoor work).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (MS) in Geology or a related field highly preferred, particularly with: Teaching Assistant (TA) and/or Research Assistant (RA) experience, Field-based thesis or research (e.g., hydrogeology, environmental geochemistry, stratigraphy)
  • Field camp completion or equivalent hands-on field training (strongly preferred)
  • Internship or prior experience in: Environmental consulting, Drilling oversight and soil/rock logging, Remediation system monitoring and sampling
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., TCEQ, EPA) is a plus.
  • Basic experience with GIS or data visualization tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and support environmental fieldwork, including: Soil, groundwater, sediment, and soil vapor sampling, Monitoring well installation oversight and development, Aquifer testing support (e.g., slug tests, pumping tests), Detailed soil and lithologic logging
  • Maintain accurate and defensible field documentation, including logs, chain-of-custody forms, and photo records.
  • Employ contemporary analytical techniques to examine both organic and inorganic compounds, determining their constituent components.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors (drillers, surveyors, laboratories) and adhere to site-specific Health & Safety Plans (HASP).
  • Participate in regular field assignments, requiring travel and work outdoors in variable Texas conditions.
  • Compile and manage field and laboratory data in accordance with WSP standards.
  • Support preparation of technical deliverables, including: Site investigation reports, Figures, tables, and maps, Boring logs and monitoring well construction documentation
  • Assist in data interpretation under direction of senior staff.
  • Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and project managers to meet project quality and schedule objectives.
  • Assist with field preparation activities including equipment setup, calibration, and logistics planning.
