About The Position

SLR Consulting (Canada) is a team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals with over 800 members across 20 office locations in Canada. They deliver environmental and sustainability services by integrating advisory services with over 30 technical environmental and engineering disciplines to help clients address complex sustainability challenges, embodying the motto "Making Sustainability Happen." The Early Career Environmental Scientist / Engineer will join the Land Quality and Remediation team in Calgary. This role involves executing and leading various programs related to the assessment, monitoring, management, and remediation of contaminated sites. The position requires involvement in the full life cycle of projects, assisting project managers with budgeting, planning, coordinating, and executing projects, as well as data analysis, reviews, and reporting. Projects will span a range of urban and remote sites, including upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas facilities, commercial and industrial properties, and federal and municipal sites. Requirements

  • Minimum of a degree or a technical diploma in environmental science, engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or related studies.
  • 1-5 years of experience in contaminated site work including leading and supporting environmental site assessments (Phase I, II, and III ESAs), soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation programs.
  • Passion for fieldwork and available to work away from home occasionally for up to 2 weeks at a time.
  • Knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to oil and gas facilities, construction sites, subsurface investigations, and contaminated sites
  • Able to work independently and in small teams, including ability to work in remote locations and adapt to conditions/resources.
  • Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites/clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ex-situ remediation would be considered a significant asset
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., E.I.T., G.I.T., A.Sc.T, P.Tech, C.E.T etc.) would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Participating in all facets of environmental or contaminated site projects including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, remediation programs, and long-term environmental monitoring of sites.
  • Participating in fieldwork programs involving sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, and surface water, as well as decommissioning and remediation programs, and remediation system operation and maintenance.
  • Assisting with the preparation of a variety of technical reports.
  • Supporting project managers with project planning and coordination, reporting, and tracking schedules and budget.
  • Assisting with technical and financial proposal preparation.
