About The Position

SLR Consulting (Canada) is a team of 800+ advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals across 20 office locations in Canada. They deliver environmental and sustainability services, integrating advisory services with over 30 technical environmental and engineering disciplines to help clients address complex sustainability challenges. The new Early Career Environmental Scientist / Engineer / Technologist will join the Land Quality and Remediation team in Winnipeg. This role involves executing and leading programs related to the assessment, monitoring, management, and remediation of contaminated sites. The position will involve varied projects at urban and remote sites, including upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas facilities, commercial and industrial properties, and federal and municipal sites. The role supports project managers with budgeting, planning, coordinating, executing projects, data analysis, reviews, and reporting. SLR emphasizes personal and professional growth and opportunities for employees.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a degree or a technical diploma in environmental science, engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or related studies.
  • 1-5 years of experience in contaminated site work including leading and supporting environmental site assessments (Phase I, II, and III ESAs), soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation programs.
  • Passion for fieldwork and available to work away from home occasionally for up to 2 weeks at a time.
  • Knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to oil and gas facilities, construction sites, subsurface investigations, and contaminated sites.
  • Able to work independently and in small teams, including ability to work in remote locations and adapt to conditions/resources.
  • Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites/clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ex-situ remediation would be considered a significant asset.
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., E.I.T., G.I.T., A.Sc.T, P.Tech, C.E.T etc.) would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in all facets of environmental or contaminated site projects including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, remediation programs, and long-term environmental monitoring of sites.
  • Participating in fieldwork programs involving sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, and surface water, as well as decommissioning and remediation programs, and remediation system operation and maintenance.
  • Assisting with the preparation of a variety of technical reports.
  • Supporting project managers with project planning and coordination, reporting, and tracking schedules and budget.
  • Assisting with technical and financial proposal preparation.
