About The Position

SLR Consulting (Canada) is seeking an Early Career Environmental Scientist / Engineer / Technician to join their Land Quality and Remediation team in Edmonton. This role involves playing an important part in executing and leading programs related to the assessment, monitoring, management, and remediation of contaminated sites. The position offers variety, with work on different aspects of projects at urban and remote sites, including oil and gas facilities, commercial and industrial properties, and federal and municipal sites. The successful candidate will assist project managers with budgeting, planning, coordinating, executing projects, data analysis, and reporting, with opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a degree or a technical diploma in environmental science, engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or related studies.
  • 0-3 years of experience in contaminated site work including leading and supporting environmental site assessments (Phase I, II, and III ESAs), soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation programs.
  • Passion for fieldwork and available to work away from home occasionally for up to 2 weeks at a time.
  • Knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to oil and gas facilities, construction sites, subsurface investigations, and contaminated sites.
  • Able to work independently and in small teams, including ability to work in remote locations and adapt to conditions/resources.
  • Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites/clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest or experience in data base systems, data entry, and AI tools.
  • Experience with ex-situ remediation would be considered a significant asset.
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., E.I.T., G.I.T., A.Sc.T, P.Tech, C.E.T etc.) would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in all facets of environmental or contaminated site projects including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, remediation programs, and long-term environmental monitoring of sites.
  • Participating in fieldwork programs involving sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, and surface water, as well as decommissioning and remediation programs, and remediation system operation and maintenance.
  • Assisting with the preparation of a variety of technical reports.
  • Supporting project managers with project planning and coordination, reporting, and tracking schedules and budget.
  • Assisting with technical and financial proposal preparation.
