About The Position

The Part-Time Early Care and Education Teacher works with children of all abilities to make sure they have a safe, loving, and fun place to learn. The teacher helps create lessons and activities that help kids grow in all ways: mentally, emotionally, socially, and physically. They also help make sure the classroom is organized and that the children’s needs are met.

Requirements

  • At least 16 years old for part-time work.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Training in mandatory reporting of child abuse.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Good communication skills to talk to children, families, and other staff members.
  • Ability to solve problems and be flexible.
  • Can lift up to 60 pounds (when needed for child care).
  • Can use basic technology like email and word processing.
  • Can use basic devices like tablet and laptop.
  • Must have a driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in early care and education or a similar field.
  • Experience working with children and adults with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of child care rules in Iowa.
  • Experience with behavior management.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and care of all children, including helping with lessons and activities, monitoring safety, assisting with hygiene and health rules, reporting abuse, following routines, assisting with personal needs, and active engagement.
  • Create a great learning space by keeping the classroom clean and organized, ensuring a welcoming environment, assisting with program evaluation, adhering to privacy rules, tracking supplies, performing housekeeping tasks, and adapting lessons for diverse needs.
  • Lead fun and creative activities by planning engaging lessons, using varied materials, and celebrating cultural diversity.
  • Communicate with families by building strong relationships, updating parents on progress, advocating for families, and meeting with parents to discuss child development.
  • Complete paperwork and reports, including incident/injury reports and daily activity tracking, and clocking in and out on time.
  • Engage in training and education by completing assigned trainings.
  • Perform other duties such as learning about and sharing Hand in Hand services, discussing ideas with staff, collaborating with professionals, and staying aware of family and child situations.
