About The Position

This position is open to multiple Burns & Wilcox branch offices across the US. We are seeking a strategic and experienced Property Leader to drive the growth and profitability of our newly launched Excess & Surplus (E&S) Property product. This leadership role is responsible for driving premium growth, underwriting oversight, portfolio management, and broker relationship development for business written nationwide through Burns & Wilcox, our main wholesale distribution partner. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in E&S Property underwriting, catastrophe exposure management, and portfolio strategy, along with a collaborative leadership style and strong market relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of E&S Property underwriting experience within an E&S carrier environment, including commercial lines and homeowners’ business
  • Strong knowledge of Property insurance products, underwriting principles, catastrophe exposure management, and risk assessment methodologies
  • Proven experience managing wind and wildfire CAT exposures
  • Experience working with wholesale distribution partners
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and relationship management abilities with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally as required

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team that underwrites brokerage lite and middle-market E&S Property accounts on a brokerage basis
  • Drive profitable premium growth country-wide for a newly launched brokerage property product
  • Build a team to support profitable growth and high service levels
  • Partner closely with the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) to develop and execute underwriting strategies aligned with profitability and growth objectives
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify trends, and implement corrective actions to optimize underwriting results
  • Manage catastrophe (CAT) exposure accumulations, particularly in wildfire- and wind-exposed regions
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Property underwriting guidelines, pricing strategies, and rate adequacy
  • Build and strengthen relationships with wholesale brokers and internal business partners to drive production and retention
  • Build, lead and manage a high-performing underwriting team, including mentoring, training, and developing underwriting talent
  • Assist with facultative and treaty reinsurance management
  • Deliver responsive, high-quality service by providing timely underwriting decisions and resolving broker inquiries effectively
