About The Position

Texas Sports Academy is seeking a fully remote Dyslexia Specialist to support K-12 students with dyslexia and related reading differences. This role is 100% virtual, requiring the delivery of reading intervention and structured literacy support via video. The specialist will help students access the curriculum by providing them with necessary strategies. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in structured literacy instruction for students with dyslexia, a strong understanding of evidence-based methods, and a proven history of achieving measurable reading gains.

Requirements

  • Direct experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading differences, with examples of reading gains achieved.
  • Training in structured literacy programs such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, LETRS, or comparable programs, with demonstrated use in practice.
  • Skills in assessment and planning, including the ability to interpret assessment data, identify instructional next steps, and communicate plans clearly.
  • Comfort working in an athletic environment and building trust with student-athletes.
  • Bachelor's Degree in education, special education, reading, speech-language pathology, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching, tutoring, or supporting students in a fully remote setting, with a focus on maintaining engagement.
  • Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), Certified Academic Language Professional (CALP), or equivalent certification in dyslexia intervention.
  • Background in sports or athletics, either personally or professionally.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate with Spanish-speaking families.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-on-one and small-group structured literacy sessions via video, tailored to individual student needs.
  • Work directly with students on decoding, fluency, spelling, and reading comprehension, adapting instruction based on progress.
  • Monitor student progress using running records, curriculum-based measures, and other reading assessments, adjusting plans as needed.
  • Collaborate with academic guides and athletic coaches to ensure consistent application of accommodations and strategies.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding strategies, progress, and next steps, and coach them on reinforcing reading skills at home.
  • Assist students in effectively using tools such as text-to-speech and audiobooks, and ensure online accommodations are implemented.
