About The Position

Under the direction of the General Services Director or designee, this position provides strategic leadership, management, organization, direction, and supervision of all operations and activities of the County’s DWI Program. The role is responsible for coordinating, planning, implementing, training, monitoring, and evaluating staff, clients, and contractors. This position oversees all DWI Planning Grant program efforts, the performance management and morale of Department staff, and exercises independent judgment and discretion. Key duties include developing plans, administering the program budget, monitoring all DWI Grant activities, providing evaluation of project progress and impact, and supervising staff and contractors. The Coordinator also oversees the Teen Outreach Program grant initiative. This position is responsible for the coordination, planning, evaluation, monitoring, implementation, and direction of all Grant County DWI Program activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent recognized certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field.
  • Or combination of experience in the area of substance abuse prevention, addiction assessment and treatment, DWI program administrator and/or research to equal four (4) years.
  • Ability to operate a computer, its software and general office equipment.
  • Valid New Mexico State Driver’s License.
  • Good driving record to be insurable for liability purposes.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) or more years of supervisory/management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the daily operations of the DWI Program by overseeing all funded components of the local DWI Grant including staff supervision, program component initiatives, goals and outcomes.
  • Establish, in conjunction with the DWI Planning Council, a County wide DWI Program to develop and/or assist in the development of DWI prevention activities and policies; promote community awareness of DWI problem and prevention programs; development of alcohol free alternative community activities; promotes youth, business, school and community participation in designating social activities; assists and/or develops community training programs and conferences to build alcohol avoidance skills in County youth.
  • Prepare and submit Local DWI (LDWI) Program and Distribution Funding on a quarterly and year-end bases as required by the County, City and State procedures.
  • Make reimbursements and expenditures according to the rules and regulations of the Department of Finance and Administration.
  • Maintain proper records for the DWI Grant, Distribution funds.
  • Prepare grant applications, requests for proposal and other documents as needed by the program.
  • Plan, prepare, maintain and adjust annual budgets according to funding availability and the needs of the Program.
  • Write and administer contracts for services including treatment and evaluation.
  • Responsible for the hiring, assignment, evaluation and discipline of department personnel; follows County, departmental and statutory policies and procedures when dealing with personnel matters.
  • Establish operational standards for the Department.
  • Ensure that relevant educational and professional development opportunities are provided for all employees.
  • Strive to continuously improve the professional capacity of the staff.
  • Meet regularly with the DWI Planning Council and other entities to be determined by that body and the General Services Director.
  • Serve as liaison between the State, County, Program and appropriate community and agency officials for the establishment of DWI prevention programs and initiatives.
  • Prepare and present updates to County Commissioners.
  • Attend DWI Grant Council Meetings.
  • Assist with and/or perform duties of other departmental employees.
  • Work irregular hours, attend job related meetings, and perform all duties with minimal supervision.
  • Meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Disclose real or perceived conflicts of interest and abide by the Governmental Conduct Act (NMSA 10-16-1 (et. seq.).
