About The Position

This externship at PriorityPet Urgent Care of Germantown is designed for veterinary students from 1st through 4th year. The program offers a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in a fast-paced urgent care environment. The clinic is committed to providing exceptional care for pets, treating them like family, and is available 7 days a week from 2pm to 10pm. The externship provides exposure to surgical procedures, internal medicine cases, and urgent care scenarios. Students will benefit from excellent mentorship, particularly from Dr. Bishop, who is described as an excellent teacher. The facility is new and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Housing may be available depending on the time of year.

Requirements

  • Must be an active veterinary student from an AVMA accredited institution.
  • Must be a compassionate team player.
  • Must possess strong communication skills.
  • Students looking to enhance their education through real-world experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience in urgent care veterinary medicine.
  • Observe and participate in surgical procedures (e.g., C-sections, cystotomies, foreign body removals).
  • Gain experience in internal medicine cases (e.g., pancreatitis, protein-losing enteropathy, acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome).
  • Handle urgent care cases (e.g., dog bites, hit by car incidents, snake bites).
  • Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced veterinarians.
