DVM Student Externship - Wisconsin
About The Position
Western Veterinary Partners offers externships for veterinary students to gain valuable real-world experience by applying classroom knowledge in a clinical setting. Students in any grade can apply for externships as part of their clinical year or for informal experience. The program aims to improve the lives of veterinarians and provide a supportive environment. Our hospitals are well-established practices across the United States, dedicated to high standards of medicine and client care, offering a wide range of environments including AAHA-accredited, companion animal, exotics/avian, mixed animal, and feline-only practices. We strive for team-oriented, laid-back, and close-knit cultures with a low-stress atmosphere.
Requirements
- Veterinary Students in any grade can apply
- Must be part of their clinical year externship blocks or for informal externship experience.
Nice To Haves
- Small animal, mixed animal, dental, etc. experience
- Evaluate practices to potentially join after graduation
Responsibilities
- Client communication: gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, reviewing estimates
- Ownership of cases by creating treatment plans, diagnostics, managing and performing in-house labs
- Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures including dental procedures
- Overall medical management of patients
- Practicing communication skills, time management skills, fiscal responsibilities, record keeping, and relationship building with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
