The Durable Medical Equipment Technician will fit and educate patients on orthopedic devices and DME per provider orders, ensuring proper sizing, comfort, and understanding of usage, care, and expected outcomes. This role involves applying and removing casts and splints as directed by providers, maintaining cast room readiness, and ensuring adequate inventory of supplies. The technician will leverage Epic and third-party DME software (e.g., MotionMD) to manage daily operations, verify benefits, initiate pre-authorizations, and collect patient financial responsibilities. Additionally, they will document all services and measurements, including payer-required forms (e.g., ABNs, FRNs), to ensure compliance with billing and insurance regulations. The position also supports inventory management and audit activities in collaboration with the DME Coordinator, and promptly reports equipment issues or shortages to leadership. Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with patients, providers, clinical staff, vendors, and suppliers is crucial for seamless and high-quality care delivery. The role requires timely and accurate documentation in alignment with clinical, operational, and regulatory standards. Additional duties may be assigned to support the efficient operation of orthopedic and DME services, adapting to evolving patient and departmental needs. The technician must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, understanding the principles of growth and development over the life span and possessing the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
