About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of educators to partner with them in achieving their goals. This position involves the operation of offset printing presses, digital printers/copiers, and associated equipment for the preparation of various documents. The role requires specialized work in operating offset duplicating machinery and high-volume digital printing/copying machinery. Assignments are received in the form of documents to be duplicated, and the work is performed without technical supervision, with review based on the quality of finished copies.

Requirements

  • Completion of a specialized training course from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college, university, business school, trade school or high school in printing, offset lithography, or a similar course covering the use and operation of offset process duplicating equipment; or, Six (6) months of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in the operation of offset duplicating equipment.
  • Good knowledge of the operation of offset duplicating equipment.
  • Good knowledge of the limitations, adaptability, and general duplicating characteristics of the various types of masters such as paper, and aluminum.
  • Good knowledge of the papers, inks, chemicals, and other supplies used in offset duplicating processes.
  • Good knowledge of machine adjustments required in performing a variety of duplicating work.
  • Skill in preparing and burning negatives on aluminum or paper plates.
  • Ability to maintain routine records and to submit simple reports.
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Must pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $104.50 to the candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares plates by cleaning, drying, and sensitizing grained metal plates and burning in an image from a negative.
  • Operates an offset printing machine duplicating documents; attaches and adjusts plate to cylinder; fills repellent reservoir, inks the machine; regulates the flow of ink and repellent; makes necessary adjustments to blanket, paper feed, and other machine parts; inspects proofs for quality of printing, adjusts machine until work is satisfactory.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and makes minor repairs to equipment.
  • Maintains simple stock control records of supplies necessary for the duplicating process.
  • Operates various machines to complete duplication jobs which may include a power stapler, automatic separator/collator/stitcher, folding machine, power cutter, etc.
  • Operates high-volume, digital print/copy machinery to process a variety of jobs; programs job specifications into the machine to produce the desired outcome; loads paper in the machine; operates the automatic collator; and clears jams as necessary.
  • May restock supplies as needed to complete work.
  • May deliver finished jobs to various locations.
