About The Position

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is seeking a Dual Language Instructional Aide to assist teachers in achieving instructional objectives. This role involves working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning, conduct learning exercises, and support classroom activities. The aide will also be responsible for operating and caring for equipment, alerting teachers to student needs, guiding independent study, and providing assistance to children as necessary. Additionally, the aide will help distribute and collect instructional materials, maintain neat work and study areas, and assist with the supervision of children during various activities and emergencies. The position requires effective communication with school personnel and parents/guardians to support student educational needs and utilize technology effectively.

Requirements

Have a high school diploma or a GED certificate and Complete 48 hours at an institution of higher education OR Obtain an associate’s (or higher) degree OR Pass a State approved assessment.
Approved assessments include: Workkeys, ParaPro, or Para Educator ( If you do not have a State approved assessment, KCKPS will offer one credential assessment test to candidates recommended for hire)
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand and talk or hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
The employee must occasionally push items of 50 pounds such as pushing on a bike or wheelchair, or moving/rearranging furniture.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

Responsibilities

Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
Conducts learning exercises with small groups of students.
Operates and cares for equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual students.
Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
Provides escort and assistance to the children as necessary.
Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
Assist teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
Assist with supervision of children during regular play periods, field trips, assemblies or emergency drills.
Other related classroom duties as assigned.
Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.
Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
Performs other related work as required.
