About The Position

Design and instruct curriculum in all academic areas to meet the needs of a diverse class of elementary students. Provide instruction in both English and Spanish. Bilingual required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of specific curriculum content for subject area.
  • Skilled in lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing and build relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates with successful experience in teaching Spanish and English.
  • Strong desire to create a powerful dual language program.
  • Ability to co-teach.
  • Ability to collaboratively across middle school and elementary Dual Language PLCs.
  • Trained in GLAD or Constructive Meaning strategies.
  • Ability to do some curriculum mapping during summer.
  • Experience preferred but not required.
  • Completion of a higher education bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in education/teaching.
  • A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for middle school with science endorsement.
  • Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language.
  • Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lesson plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of science and incorporate writing skills as well as techniques needed to teach those skills effectively in both languages.
  • Knowledge of appropriate practices for teaching multilingual students.
  • Have the desire and skills needed to work closely and collaboratively with other middle school science teachers as part of a professional learning community.
  • Willing to help develop and support the Dual Language program at the middle school.
  • Ability to implement effective teaching practices with strong classroom management skills.
  • Data driven with project based learning strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follow established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
  • Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
