About The Position

The Part-Time Dual Immersion Instructional Specialist provides specialized instructional support to improve academic outcomes for multilingual learners across the district's Title I elementary schools. This position focuses on supporting newcomer students and multilingual learners in both Dual Immersion and traditional classrooms through Spanish literacy intervention, instructional coaching, and newcomer transition planning. Working collaboratively with district and school staff, the Dual Immersion Instructional Specialist builds educator capacity while providing targeted support to students, ensuring multilingual learners have equitable access to high-quality literacy instruction and intervention.

Requirements

  • Valid North Carolina teaching license.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (spoken and written).
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners.
  • Experience teaching in Dual Immersion programs.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction and the Science of Reading.
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition, multilingual learner instructional practices, and biliteracy development.
  • Knowledge of Spanish literacy development and intervention practices.
  • Ability to analyze student data and translate findings into instructional action.
  • Strong coaching, collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted Spanish literacy interventions for multilingual learners performing below grade-level expectations.
  • Conduct Spanish literacy assessments and analyze student data to identify instructional strengths and areas of need.
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with school teams to adjust interventions based on assessment data.
  • Collaborate with interventionists, ML teachers, and classroom teachers to coordinate instructional support for multilingual learners across both Dual Immersion and traditional classrooms.
  • Provide job-embedded coaching specifically for Spanish Dual Immersion teachers to strengthen Spanish instruction and biliteracy best practices.
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan, co-teach, observe, and reflect on instruction with a focus on improving student outcomes.
  • Support teachers in using Spanish literacy assessment data to inform instruction, differentiation, and targeted intervention.
  • Strengthen teacher capacity to intentionally build cross-linguistic transfer between Spanish and English to support biliteracy development.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and professional learning to Spanish Dual Immersion teachers to improve instructional practice and student achievement.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information.
  • Attend required meetings and professional learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Elementary Instruction.
