About The Position

The research assistant will support the principal investigator, project manager and research personnel of the Diabetes Transformation Project (DTP). The DTP is comprised of a number of different quality improvement and research projects that aim to build a more equitable, accessible and innovative system of care for pediatric diabetes across BC. Key components of the DTP include LearnDiabetes, a digital education platform for families of children and youth living with type 1 diabetes; ECHO Pediatric Diabetes, a collaborative multidisciplinary provincial community of practice for clinicians caring for children and youth living with diabetes; and ongoing work with provincial partners to explore opportunities for expanding and improving the mental health and peer support resources available to families and children and youth living with diabetes in BC. The DTP also leads the BC Pediatric Diabetes Registry (BC-PDR), a first of its kind in BC provincial pediatric diabetes clinical registry. The research assistant will be responsible for administrative, project, and research and evaluation-related tasks for a number of DTP initiatives and activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a one year to two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience are considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience in using REDCap for electronic consent and survey administration

Responsibilities

  • Provides insight and feedback to the project manager, research coordinator and PI on insights regarding experience working with and recruiting participants
  • Build trusted relationships with clinic staff and clinicians to ensure effective engagement and involvement in DTP projects
  • Assist with patient & family engagement to conduct review and collect feedback on new educational materials for LearnDiabetes
  • Work with the project manager, clinical team and Digital Lab to support the development of new educational pathways for LearnDiabetes by scheduling meetings, tracking clinician feedback and input; tracking Digital Lab completion of tasks and items.
  • Track and follow up on feedback and metrics from users of LearnDiabetes, including requested corrections and improvements to existing materials
  • Assist the project manager and other DTP research staff in the administrative organization for provincial meetings of a clinical community of practice
  • Support the project manager in developing and implementing strategies to broaden and diversity the engagement of patients and families in the DTP Advisory Board and for ad-hoc activities requiring patient & family input by booking and organizing logistics for engagement meetings and events.
  • Work with project manager and other project staff to develop, implement and evaluate processes to support patient navigation related to mental health resources
  • Support the administration of surveys and qualitative data collection tools for DTP studies and evaluation activities
  • Assist in the assembly and compilation of data for ethics applications, amendments and renewals
  • Work with the research coordinator to develop and update REDCap electronic consent forms and surveys for DTP studies
  • Support the PI in compiling literature reviews and development of annotated bibliographies for DTP research papers
  • Be responsible for maintaining paper and electronic project documents including essential and confidential documents; ensuring the secure storage and transfer of research records
  • Organize and prioritize workload to meet project deadlines and patient or family queries and questions
