About The Position

This position is part-time and is only available for candidates who are currently enrolled in a Diesel Technology program. The Trailer preventive maintenance technician will work cross-functionally across multiple areas of the garage. Responsibilities include performing routine preventive maintenance repairs on trailers and performing emergency mechanical or electrical failures. The role requires the ability to diagnose and repair brake and wheel end failures on trailers, and perform minor structural welding and cutting tasks. The technician must be able to safely apply knowledge and troubleshooting skills to all assigned equipment and effectively communicate with all transportation personnel, including managers, drivers, and clerks. Must be able to read and interpret instructions, manuals, and schematics. Basic math and computer skills are necessary for tasks such as documenting information, processing daily work orders, and completing required documentation. The Trailer tech may be required to perform service calls on equipment at remote locations, and a current valid driver’s license is required.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Diesel Technology program
  • 3 months of continuous work history with a single employer in the last 6 months
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current valid driver’s license
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to diagnose and repair brake and wheel end failures on trailers
  • Ability to perform minor structural welding and cutting tasks
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, manuals, and schematics

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency on standard preventive maintenance (PM1s, PM2s for trucks or trailers depending on mechanic classification)
  • Brake Inspector Certification
  • Wheel end class/certification
  • Basic Electrical knowledge
  • Ability to identify fault codes
