About The Position

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Assistant Purchasing Director to support our purchasing and procurement operations within a fast-paced commercial drywall environment. This role will work closely with the Purchasing Director, project managers, and field teams to ensure timely procurement of materials, cost control, and efficient vendor coordination across multiple projects.

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain (construction industry preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of commercial drywall materials and construction processes is highly desirable
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with construction management or ERP software is a plus
  • Experience and proficiency with takeoff software a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the procurement process for drywall materials, metal framing, insulation, fasteners, and related construction supplies
  • Solicit and analyze vendor quotes to ensure competitive pricing and favorable terms
  • Maintain and develop relationships with suppliers and manufacturers
  • Support contract negotiation efforts and monitor vendor performance
  • Coordinate with project managers and superintendents weekly to forecast material needs and delivery schedules
  • Track purchase orders, deliveries, and inventory levels to avoid shortages or delays
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to value engineering efforts
  • Assist in budgeting and cost tracking for ongoing and upcoming projects
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, project specifications, and safety standards
  • Help implement and improve purchasing systems and processes
  • Manage warehouse inventory and equipment
