About The Position

St. John Paul II Catholic High School is seeking a part-time Drumline Group Manager to assist the musical instructor in running the school's drumline. The drumline consists of over 15 members and performs at athletic contests and various school and community events. This group is a key ambassador for the school. The instructor leads weekly after-school rehearsals focusing on technique, skill-building, and repertoire development. The manager will attend most practices, coordinate travel and performances, lead additional rehearsals as needed, and communicate with students and parents under the instructor's direction. St. John Paul II Catholic High School is an Archdiocesan Catholic High School focused on post-secondary education and faith development, utilizing a Great Books approach and offering AP and dual credit courses. Teachers are required to be active Catholics.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma.
  • Experience in music/drumline and/or music instruction is required.
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.
  • Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or working toward a bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Knowledge of music, music arrangement, and percussion technique.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Directs and evaluates the learning experience of the student in both curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Provides guidance to students that promotes their welfare and Christian educational development; refers students with problems to those qualified to help.
  • Carries out carefully constructed rehearsal plans and maintains documentation of a plan for the year.
  • Carries out the disciplinary policies of the school.
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
  • Keeps records of attendance for curriculum credit.
  • Supervises arrival and dismissal of students and assists in the supervision of students as needed.
  • Coordinates, with the school office manager, all travel arrangements for performances.
  • Attends most drumline rehearsals (with coordination with the drumline instructor).
  • Travels with the group, as the staff representative, to all games and performances.
  • Coordinates with the athletic director to arrange any TAPPS competitions and needed paperwork.
  • With direction from the instructor, sends out a weekly communication to all students and families with a weekly schedule.
