About The Position

The Drum Operator follows the wet-blue process formula by monitoring temperature ranges, pH levels, and mechanical action, and promptly reporting formula discrepancies. The role requires following written formulas and operating procedures, inspecting drums and other assigned processing equipment, and following chemical-handling and safety procedures. The operator completes assigned duties and works effectively with operators, management, maintenance, and other departments. The position has no supervisory responsibilities and requires no travel. The work schedule is B Shift on a six-day workweek, including two night shifts, with flexibility to work holidays, weekends, and other hours as needed.

Requirements

At least 1 year of Hides/Tannery production or processing experience.
Hands-on experience with tannery processing equipment, hides processing, wet-blue production, or a comparable tannery process.
Experience following established production formulas, process specifications, or written operating procedures.
Ability to monitor and accurately respond to temperature, pH, timing, and mechanical-action conditions.
Ability to identify and promptly report formula deviations, process abnormalities, and equipment concerns.
Ability to perform visual inspections of drums and other assigned processing equipment.
Ability to follow chemical-handling and safety procedures.
Ability to complete and maintain respiratory-protection and SCBA qualifications applicable to the position.
Basic computer skills and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently, monitor multiple process conditions, and complete assigned responsibilities.
Ability to operate position-required material-handling equipment, including pallet jacks and two-wheeled dollies, when applicable.
Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation: stand and walk for extended periods on hard, wet, and slippery surfaces; crouch, squat, climb stairs and ladders, and occasionally crawl; repetitively lift, push, pull, and carry up to 60 pounds individually and heavier loads with assistance; and repetitively grasp, reach, pinch, and hold objects of varying sizes.
Willingness and ability to work holidays, weekends, and other hours as needed.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of Hides/Tannery production experience.
Previous experience specifically in wet-blue or blue-chrome tanning.
Previous Drum Operator experience.
Experience monitoring and documenting pH, temperature, process timing, or chemical formulas.
Experience handling or staging chemicals in a tannery or industrial processing environment.
Experience recognizing process deviations and escalating equipment or formula concerns.
Experience performing basic operator inspections or internal preventive-maintenance activities on production equipment.
Experience operating pallet jacks or similar material-handling equipment.
Previous forklift experience or forklift certification.
Experience completing production or process documentation or logs.
Basic computer skills beyond the minimum requirement.
