Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.
  • Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.
  • Five (5) years of regulatory/compliance pharmacy experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Detects and investigates any perceived or confirmed incident of controlled substance diversion or theft and identifies areas for possible diversion including Prescriber/and authorized administering practitioners, floaters, and travelers; Monitors diversion software/EHR and medication automation to identify possible medication diversion within the Inova Health System.
  • Creates, implements, manages, and maintains a comprehensive surveillance, auditing, and review programs to assist in the prevention and detection of controlled substance diversions.
  • Oversees Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) controlled substance inventory management processes and proper counts and reviews and recommends processes to detect and prevent diversion.
  • Reviews audits for pharmacy personnel when conducting daily Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) transaction activities, reviews security reports to Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) to identify unauthorized users.
  • Leads process improvement initiatives as it pertains to controlled substance diversion monitoring and auditing processes.
  • Ensures the timely resolution of Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) controlled substance discrepancies as supported by departmental policy and procedure, oversees the day-to-day operations of the team members doing daily audits to ensure compliance.
