About The Position

As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 2 with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy, you will play an important part in helping inmates overcome addiction challenges. Requirements

  • One year of para-professional and one year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"
  • One year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 credits in the behavioral sciences
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a master's degree with major coursework in addictions science, psychology or social work
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead therapeutic community and outpatient groups that promote cognitive and behavioral change
  • Maintain treatment plans, charts, and files to support counseling and program participation
  • Provide individual and group counseling while coordinating with community and correctional resources
  • Conduct assessments for inmates in need and develop recommendations based on policy guidance
  • Oversee voluntary peer recovery meetings and manage participant enrollment and attendance
  • Offer guidance to new staff and participate in required training to maintain professional skills
