Requirements
- One year of para-professional and one year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"
- One year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
- Two years of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 credits in the behavioral sciences
- One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a master's degree with major coursework in addictions science, psychology or social work
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must meet the PA residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead therapeutic community and outpatient groups that promote cognitive and behavioral change
- Maintain treatment plans, charts, and files to support counseling and program participation
- Provide individual and group counseling while coordinating with community and correctional resources
- Conduct assessments for inmates in need and develop recommendations based on policy guidance
- Oversee voluntary peer recovery meetings and manage participant enrollment and attendance
- Offer guidance to new staff and participate in required training to maintain professional skills
