This position focuses on providing beginning-level professional counseling and support for inmates working through substance-related challenges. You will assist with treatment planning, group facilitation, assessments, and record maintenance.
Requirements
- One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"
- One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker
- One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
- A master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
- Must meet the PA residency requirement
- Must be able to perform essential job functions
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing individualized plans and providing supervised counseling sessions
- Lead therapeutic groups and community meetings according to assigned guidelines
- Maintain accurate treatment records and summaries in compliance with policies and regulations
- Conduct assessments with supervisory guidance to help determine needed services
- Join interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss inmate progress and needs
- Complete required training to strengthen counseling and safety skills
