About The Position

The Drop-In Child Care Attendant provides safe, attentive, and quality care for children ages 6 weeks through 8 years while their guardian/member utilizes the Fitness Center. This position creates a welcoming, engaging, and age-appropriate environment where children feel safe and supported. The attendant is responsible for actively supervising children, facilitating appropriate play and activities, maintaining a clean and organized childcare space, and providing friendly, professional service to children and families.

Requirements

Must have current CPR certification and First Aid certification.
Must be enthusiastic about interacting with children.
Requires strong communication, the ability to work on a team, and an understanding of child development and human behavior
Must be able to read and write in English
Ability to demonstrate good judgment and authority in caring for children.
Ability to work with children without recourse to physical punishment or psychological abuse.
Must be an advocate for the mission, values and goals of the YWCA Tulsa.

Ability to move throughout the child care area quickly and safely when responding to children’s needs or emergencies.
Ability to push, pull, lift, and move child care equipment, toys, and supplies as needed.
Ability to perform routine child care tasks, including diapering, feeding, cleaning, and assisting children with basic needs.
Ability to visually and audibly monitor multiple children and remain alert to activities occurring throughout the child care area.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
At least one year experience in a child care setting

Nice To Haves

Spanish is a plus.
Customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide attentive, active supervision of children in a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment.
Plan, organize, and participate in age-appropriate activities, play, and interactions with children.
Support positive behavior, healthy habits, and respectful interactions among children.
Respond appropriately to children’s emotional and developmental needs while in care.
Maintain required staff-to-child ratios and follow established capacity and supervision guidelines.
Ensure all children are properly checked in and out through the database and follow established drop-in childcare procedures.
Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents/guardians regarding their child’s care, behavior, or needs.
Provide basic care as needed, including bottles, snacks, and diaper changes, in accordance with established procedures and parent/guardian instructions.
Maintain a clean, organized, sanitary, and hazard-free childcare environment, including toys, equipment, and activity areas.
Maintain confidentiality regarding children, members, and families.
Follow parent/guardian instructions regarding approved methods for addressing behavioral concerns and communicate significant concerns to the parent/guardian.
Promptly report safety concerns, incidents, damaged or missing materials, or concerns regarding an individual child to supervisor.
Follow all required procedures for reporting suspected child abuse, neglect, or endangerment.
Attend required meetings, trainings, and staff development activities.
Maintain reliable attendance and flexibility to work assigned drop-in childcare shifts, which may include weekday mornings, evenings, and other scheduled hours based on program needs.
Follow all YWCA Tulsa policies, procedures, safety practices, and applicable childcare guidelines.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support safe and effective childcare operations.
