Drone & Image Data Technician - Contract

Askari DefenseAtlanta, GA

About The Position

This role is designed for a reliable, detail-oriented drone & image data technician who can support our perception team across the hands-on work required to build high-quality image datasets. This is a 3-month contract role, with possible extension based on team needs. You will support the perception team across a mix of field work, data annotation, and routine camera procedures. Some days will involve operating drones to collect imagery in the field; others will involve carefully labeling image data in our internal tools, reviewing data for abnormalities, or following documented procedures to focus lenses and run basic camera calibration. You do not need an engineering or computer vision background. What matters most is careful execution: being comfortable on a computer, willing to learn new tools, able to follow instructions exactly, and consistent enough to produce high-quality work without cutting corners. This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys a mix of field and desk work, is comfortable working around drones, cameras, and small hardware, and takes pride in doing repetitive technical tasks carefully. We will train you on the specific tools, procedures, and workflows used on the job. The work may include occasional travel for data collection, typically no more than once a month for 2-3 days at a time. The contract may be extended depending on company needs.

  • Prior drone flight experience, or an existing FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Any prior experience with data labeling, data entry, QA-type work, or other detail-oriented computer-based tasks.
  • Comfort handling small hardware, optics, or cameras. Hobby-level experience is fine.
  • Familiarity working in Linux or on technical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support the perception team across data collection, data labeling, and routine camera workflows.
  • Label image data in internal annotation tools, following guidelines closely and consistently.
  • Review collected and labeled data, flagging abnormalities, inconsistencies, or other issues that may affect dataset quality.
  • Follow documented camera procedures, including focusing lenses and running routine calibration steps exactly as written.
  • Operate small drones to capture imagery for datasets, following flight plans, safety procedures, and team direction.
  • Travel for data collection when needed, including occasional trips to other cities or states, typically no more than once a month for 2-3 days at a time.
  • Help in the lab with light setup, handling, and organization of cameras, drones, and small hardware.
