About The Position

The primary purpose of this job position is to drive residents to off-site appointments in a safe and efficient manner. The Van Driver works under the supervision of the Building Services Director & Assistant. As Van Driver, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to carry out your assigned duties. Every effort has been made to make your job description as complete as possible. However, it in no way states or implies that these are the only duties you will be required to perform. Responsibilities

  • Assure that schedules are followed as outlined for respective shift or area.
  • File complaints/grievances with your supervisors.
  • Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, departments director, and/or administrator.
  • Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs.
  • Attend all mandatory in-services as required.
  • Receive and follow schedules/instructions from the Receptionist and as outlined in our established policies and procedures.
  • Transport facility residents for scheduled appointments.
  • Report any accidents or unusual incidents.
  • Check appointment schedule each day for next days appointment schedule.
  • When transferring residents in or out of the van, ensure that the vehicle is in park, the ignition is off, the keys are removed from the ignition and the emergency break is on.
  • Ensure that all passengers, inclusive of self, are secured with safety belts before van is started.
  • May be required to remain with residents at scheduled appointment.
  • Ensure mechanical maintenance checks of van daily to include: Lift function, Gas level is kept above 2 full, Oil is checked every other fill up and is reported to Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Report any mechanical problems to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing service.
  • Report all incidents/accidents, no mater how minor, to your supervisor immediately. (note: Such occurrences must be reported on the shift in which they occur.)
  • Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc., to your supervisor immediately.
  • Keep your work area(s) free of hazardous conditions, i.e., grease/oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc., to assure that all established safety rules/regulations are followed at all times.
  • Assure that established Infection Control & Universal Precautions practices are maintained when performing maintenance procedures.
  • Follow established fire safety polices and procedures.
  • Use protective clothing/devices when performing tasks that involve the handling of infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
  • Other(s) that may become necessary/ appropriate to assure that our facility is maintained in a safe and comfortable manner.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
  • Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident information.
  • Honor the residents’ personal and property rights.
  • Knock before entering a resident’s room.
  • Become familiar with the Resident’s Bill of Rights.
  • Turn in all found articles to your supervisor.
