About The Position

Broward Children’s Center (BCC) is dedicated to transforming lives by providing specialized care to children and young adults who are medically fragile and developmentally disabled. Our comprehensive services range from 24/7 skilled nursing at our pediatric care facility to developmental education programs, therapeutic support, and family-centered services like respite care, social services, and in-home health support. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License (CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement)
  • First Aid and CPR
  • HIV Course
  • HIPAA Course
  • Annual DOT Physical
  • PPD
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • LogistiCare Certification (to be obtained within 90 days after being hired)
  • 40hr Defensive Driving Course (to be obtained within 90 days after being hired)

Responsibilities

  • Drives morning/afternoon route for Organization Programs.
  • Transports children in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Safely secure children in wheelchairs during loading/unloading process.
  • Keeps interior of bus neat, clean and free of debris.
  • Reports interior repairs (seat belts, car seats, etc.) to North Area Transportation Supervisor.
  • Attends to children as needed in emergency situations.
  • Follows emergency procedures.
  • Uses cellular phone for parental/emergency procedures only.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of the children.
  • Does not pick up or deliver children to the door.
  • If child becomes ill (seizures, vomits) driver will pull to side of road.
  • If incident requires medical attention call 911 on cellular phone.
  • Once situation is under control notify the Nursing Home Administrator or the Director of Nursing.
  • In the event the vehicle becomes disabled call North Area Transportation Supervisor or Nursing Home Administrator on cellular phone for instructions.
  • In the event of an accident call 911 and notify the Nursing Home Administrator for instructions.
  • Maintains communication with Nursing Home Administrator when a change in route time occurs such as Early Release days.
  • Nonscheduled pick-ups and/or deliveries must be approved by Nursing Home Administrator or Director of Nursing.
  • Complete log sheet daily and turn into Nursing Home Administrator weekly.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Nursing Home Administrator.
