About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, the drivers are responsible for safely transporting Mission Community Hospital (MCH) patients. Patients are picked up and returned to their homes 5 days per week for the Turning Point Intensive Outpatient Program. Drivers pick up and return home surgery patients as needed, discharged patients from the Med Surge floor, Chemical Dependency Unit, as well as most discharges from Behavioral Health Unit.

Requirements

  • Hold a current, valid California driver's license.
  • Possess a current 'Commercial Driver License' with Passenger (P) endorsement.
  • Have a sworn statement as to safe driving record.
  • Possess a medical certificate with driver's license at all times.
  • Driver experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • Acceptable driving record & CDL (P) license.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with the chronic mentally ill population preferred.
  • 60 day period to obtain MAB certification.
  • 30 day period to obtain BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport Mission Community Hospital (MCH) patients to and from their homes for the Turning Point Intensive Outpatient Program.
  • Pick up and return home surgery patients as needed.
  • Transport discharged patients from the Med Surge floor, Chemical Dependency Unit, and Behavioral Health Unit.
  • Perform required safety check of vehicle.
  • Check seat belts on all passengers and ensure they are positioned and supervised for maximum safety.
  • Drive safely, defensively, within speed limits, and according to traffic, road, and weather conditions.
  • Observe all traffic and parking regulations.
  • Ensure the interior of the vehicle is clean after each trip, removing personal articles and disposing of trash.
  • Tag any 'lost belongings' and submit them to the Director of Transportation.
  • Set parking brakes, lock all doors and windows, turn off switches and lights, and return the key to the office.
  • Complete all required information on the mileage form sheet, recording any malfunctions, unsafe conditions, accidents, or unusual incidents in the 'Remarks' section.
  • Obtain and complete an 'Incident Report' for any patient or passenger who has been injured or suffered ill-effects during the trip.
  • Represent MCH by being courteous and respectful to all hospital units' patients and the public.
