About The Position

This role is for a Per Diem Driver at an Adult Day Center, focusing on shuttle services for special needs individuals. The position offers daily pay, flexibility (full-time, part-time, and per-diem), and benefits. The ideal candidate has a passion for serving others, particularly seniors and adults with disabilities, and is motivated by making a difference in their community. The role involves operating and maintaining mobility buses, ensuring safe and courteous assistance for members during on- and off-boarding, and providing timely transportation. Drivers are expected to escort members door-to-door in all weather conditions, transport them for field trips and medical appointments, and run errands for the center. Team members are expected to lead by example with a positive attitude, be supportive and dependable, prioritize member safety, and contribute to the overall health and happiness of those served.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license and state/vehicle-specific driver credentials.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Able to push, pull, bend, turn, pivot, transfer and lift up to 50 pounds; able to routinely and repeatedly exit and enter the vehicle to assist members with on- and off-boarding.
  • Able to pass required physical exams including Department of Transportation (DOT) exam.
  • Successful results of background check, motor vehicle report, drug testing and any other state-specific requirements.
  • Certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and Passenger Assisted Safety & Sensitivity (PASS) are required and will be facilitated as part of job training.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working as a driver preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience working with seniors and/or adults with special needs preferred.
  • Knowledge of local geographic area preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and follow prescribed maintenance and fueling schedule.
  • Confirm wheelchair lifts and tie down equipment are operating properly.
  • Notify supervisor of mechanical or safety concerns and report repair or service needs as they occur.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
  • Routinely exchange recommendations and insight with coworkers to ensure best practices for accommodating unique needs of members during on-boarding, off-boarding and transport.
  • Assist members with on- and off-boarding and with any special needs during transport.
  • Confirm members are securely fastened in vehicle and transport in a timely manner.
  • Maintain vehicle information, including route, mileage, fuel and service records.
  • Maintain and secure company property, including vehicle, phone and fuel cards.
  • Communicate in a positive, courteous and professional manner with members and their families, co-workers, referral agencies, and the community at large.
  • Deliver information to family members as requested.
  • Report issues, concerns or unusual occurrences to the lead driver, transportation coordinator or center director.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures, safety and regulatory laws and standards.
  • Assist transportation coordinator and/or center director in identifying and implementing operational efficiencies to enhance the member experience.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as changed or assigned at any time.
