About The Position

The Driver is responsible for transporting campus clients, residents, and tenants to and from the Jennings Center for Older Adults, as well as on scheduled program trips. This role involves ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers, performing vehicle inspections, and maintaining vehicle cleanliness. The Driver must adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including those related to driving, passenger assistance, and emergency protocols.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • 2 years of licensed driving experience
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Completed CPR/First Aid training
  • Safe driving record with no more than 4 active points
  • Physical ability to transport physically impaired persons, including those in wheelchairs
  • Ability to learn individualized transfer and assistance techniques
  • Interpersonal skills to work with older adults, children, family members, and staff
  • Excellent judgment regarding vehicle operations and client safety
  • DRIVE training (required within 1 year prior to hire or 3 months following hire)
  • PAT completion (required within 6 months prior to hire or within the first year of employment)
  • Defensive Driving Course completion (required within 1 year prior to hire or 3 months following hire)

  • Received transfer technique instruction prior to transporting participants.

Responsibilities

  • Transport campus clients, residents, and tenants to and from Jennings Center for Older Adults, providing door-to-door assistance as needed.
  • Escort and assist clients to their destinations, ensuring their safety.
  • If an Adult Day Center client has dementia, ensure they are received at home by a caregiver; otherwise, return the client to the Adult Day Center.
  • Transport clients, children, residents, and tenants on scheduled program trips.
  • Perform daily pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, including tires, signals, and brakes, and complete the Inspection Sheet.
  • Refill the gas tank, record gas details, and manage credit card usage.
  • Safely operate the vehicle's wheelchair lift, fasten seat belts, and secure wheelchairs.
  • Enforce 'no smoking' and 'no eating on the bus' policies.
  • Follow Vehicle Emergency Policies and Procedures.
  • Report any unusual behavior or problems with passengers to the supervisor.
  • Report if any passenger was not picked up as arranged.
  • Report any vehicle mechanical problems or damage on the trip sheet.
  • Immediately report any property damage, vehicle accident, or client incident to the supervisor.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of vehicles, including sweeping and emptying trash.
  • Attend in-service training programs as required.
  • Follow Resident Rights policies at all times.
  • Adhere to Ohio Code for safe driving.
  • Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
  • Interact with clients, family members, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous, respectful, and helpful manner.
  • Comply with Jennings Center for Older Adults’ Corporate Compliance Program.

  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
