About The Position

The Community Support Professional Driver provides direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in community-based settings and ensures safe, reliable transportation throughout Montgomery and Prince George’s County. Reporting to the Program Manager, this role supports meaningful day activities, employment preparation, skill building, and community engagement while maintaining safe driving practices, vehicle upkeep, and accurate documentation. The position focuses on promoting independence, person-centered growth, and full participation in community life.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, reliable transportation, and willingness to drive agency vehicles.
  • At least one year of safe driving experience.
  • Familiarity with Montgomery County and/or Prince George’s County communities, resources, and roadways.
  • Ability to use navigation apps and basic computer programs (Microsoft Office, Zoom, etc.).

  • Associate’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals in group and individual community-based activities focused on skill development and meaningful engagement.
  • Build and foster community relationships to support employment, volunteering, recreation, and social opportunities.
  • Understand each person’s goals; track and communicate progress to managers and PCP teams.
  • Deliver person-centered services that promote independence, problem-solving, and community inclusion.
  • Support employment activities, including exploring interests, job-site training, workplace communication, and follow-along support.
  • Use the Coach Approach™ to help individuals build skills rather than complete tasks for them.
  • Identify and connect natural supports in community settings.
  • Participate in meetings and collaborate with team members to ensure services align with PCP goals.
  • Maintain flexibility in daily scheduling and provide support to individuals not regularly assigned, as needed.
  • Safely transport individuals to and from services and community activities using agency vehicles.
  • Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and agency driving policies.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness, conduct basic upkeep, and report maintenance needs.
  • Follow prearranged routes using GPS; adjust routes when necessary due to traffic or delays.
  • Keep accurate mileage, attendance, and transportation records.
  • Complete accurate daily documentation in iCareManager (iCM), correcting errors as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of each person’s health needs, risks, and diagnoses.
  • Complete all required State and agency trainings (CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, PCP-related training, etc.).
  • Support individuals in travel training and learning public transportation systems.
  • Communicate service challenges or safety concerns to supervisory staff in a timely manner.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams, as assigned, to address organizational needs and promote collaboration across departments in support of Opportunities Inc.’s mission
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
