About The Position

Metrolinx is seeking a Driver Safety & Training Instructor for a 24-month contract position (Full-Time) to deliver and monitor safety and training programs for all drivers of GO Transit buses and support vehicles. This role is an in-office position based at the Streetsville Garage location. The team is highly collaborative, and much of the work benefits from in-person co-creation, relationship-building, and hands-on partnership with leaders across the organization.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a college diploma in adult facilitation techniques, including needs assessment, designing, and developing instruction, delivering instruction, evaluating, and managing training programs, communications for teaching, methods of instruction; or any combination of education, training or experience deemed equivalent.
  • A valid Class B or C driver’s licence for a minimum of three (3) years.
  • A valid Z endorsement for a minimum of three (3) years.
  • Possess a good driving record for the past five (5) years.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain MTO signing authority for Class B and C licences.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain MTO signing authority for Z endorsements.
  • Demonstrated years of experience, including knowledge, or demonstrated ability in: Driving highway coaches and/or regular transit buses.
  • Demonstrated years of experience, including knowledge, or demonstrated ability in: Oral, written, and interpersonal communications involving union/management relations, interviewing, and public speaking.
  • Demonstrated years of experience, including knowledge, or demonstrated ability in: Training bus drivers, both in class and on road.
  • Demonstrated years of experience, including knowledge, or demonstrated ability in: Implementing driver safety and training programs.
  • Familiarity with The Ontario Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Public Vehicles Act, National Safety Code, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (Out of Service Criteria), and CVOR regulations.
  • Ability to effectively represent GO Transit when communicating with the media in the event of a serious collision or incident.
  • Knowledge of the technicalities of GO Transit operated bus equipment.
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.

Responsibilities

  • Training and licensing new and existing drivers complying with both corporate and legal requirements.
  • Providing retraining sessions for drivers post-collision.
  • Providing refresher sessions for drivers returning to work post-absence.
  • Conducting driving assessments through on board and on road follow-ups.
  • Supervising and monitoring the progress of new drivers and conducting detailed performance reviews before the end of their probation period.
  • Providing corporate mandated training and testing.
  • Providing supervisory support to Bus Operations.
  • Conducting driver safety programs.
  • Investigating collisions involving GO Transit’s vehicles and providing recommendations for action to avoid future occurrences.
