About The Position

This role involves operating a paratransit vehicle, providing safe and reliable transportation to passengers, particularly those with special needs. The driver is responsible for ensuring customer comfort, safety, and adherence to schedules and company policies. This includes assisting passengers with mobility devices, practicing defensive driving, and maintaining accurate records.

Requirements

  • 3 years verifiable driving record
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid IL driver license
  • Clean driving record – DMV printout required
  • Stable work history
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Positive attitude and enjoy working with the general public
  • Adaptive decision-making skills for handling unexpected situations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to follow directions
  • Consistently showing up on time and being dependable
  • Ability to work in an ever-changing environment
  • Patience and understanding, providing compassionate service to passengers with special needs
  • Must be able to correctly use all electronic technology after training

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customers feel welcome and effectively communicate with passengers, especially during service disruptions.
  • Provide passengers with assistance as needed, including information on schedules and guidance.
  • Accommodate passengers with mobility devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers, providing curb-to-curb or door-to-door service.
  • Practice defensive driving, anticipating hazards and reacting appropriately to avoid accidents.
  • Ensure safe on-road operations while maintaining on-time performance.
  • Be familiar with assigned routing and detours, including those due to inclement weather.
  • Be aware of ADA Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Report any vehicular accident or passenger incident immediately to dispatch and follow reporting procedures.
  • Comply with all requirements of the Road Traffic Safety Management System.
  • Comply with rules, laws, and regulations relating to road safety.
  • Report any situation posing a risk to road safety to a supervisor.
  • Promote road safety when driving a vehicle.
  • Collect the prescribed fare media and notify dispatch of any fare evasion or fraud.
  • Perform pre and post-trip inspections and enter all defects on DVIR forms.
  • Follow exact deadhead routing and assigned revenue service routes.
  • Depart the start of each route exactly on-time and never operate ahead of schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
