About The Position

This position provides pick-up and/or delivery services to and from donors, clients, or customers through the application of safe driving and material handling procedures (as a relief or secondary driver). It also provides basic general support and maintenance in a warehouse, food bank, or Ministry Unit.

Requirements

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Completion of High School Diploma.
  • Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Up to 1 year of safe driving experience.
  • Valid full Driver’s License for the province; an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Strong navigation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe and careful handling of all deliveries and pickups using an assigned Salvation Army (TSA) vehicle in a timely and secure manner.
  • Load and unload goods at designated facilities.
  • Demonstrate a pleasant manner with the public.
  • Pick up supplies, donations, or run any errands for the office.
  • Weigh and pack away all goods (food donations) received.
  • Perform circle checks of vehicle, checking air, water, oil, and other items to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Maintain program vehicle log and report any problems.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records (mileage, fuel costs, issues encountered).
  • Responsible for the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment.
  • Ensure program vehicle is clean with all personal items removed daily.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing of supplies and equipment used.
  • Maintain knowledge of legislative and organization policies such as health and safety regulations/policies, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts.
  • May perform unloading, sorting, packing, storing, loading of donations ensuring integrity of donations are maintained.
  • May sort donations for distribution based on established standards of quality and distinguishes between discarded and good quality merchandise according to policy.
  • May build food hampers for the food bank and deliver them to the appropriate areas and/or provide emergency food hampers to clients as directed by caseworker or supervisor.
  • May direct work of volunteers who assist in the warehouse, MU, food bank.
  • May perform basic maintenance of/in warehouse, MU, food bank (patch painting, basic furniture repair, etc.) and assist with snow cleaning and basic groundskeeping.
  • Pack food orders for the clients.
  • Maintaining the Standards and Procedures.
