About The Position

As a Driver License Examiner with the Department of Transportation, you will help ensure every driver is ready for the road. This position lets you develop strong evaluation skills while supporting public safety. You will interact with applicants, conduct exams, and uphold important driving standards. Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public
  • Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Twenty-one years of age at the time of application
  • No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions
  • Conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports
  • Selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment

Nice To Haves

  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct standardized driving examinations to assess applicant competence and safety awareness
  • Determine physical qualifications, review documents, and check vehicles for required mechanical conditions
  • Administer written and vision exams and evaluate applicant understanding of motor vehicle laws and traffic signs
  • Examine applications and registrations for irregularities and ensure accuracy in processing
  • Follow all Safety Administration policies to provide courteous and consistent service
