About The Position

Play a key part in keeping communities safe by guiding applicants through the driver licensing process. The Driver License Examiner w/CDL for the Department of Transportation supports safe travel by evaluating driving skills and verifying identity documents. This role provides steady, rewarding work, and the chance to learn specialized procedures. Help people take an important step toward responsible driving while serving the public with pride. This position supports highway safety by evaluating driver license applicants and assisting customers at the Driver License Center.

Requirements

  • Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • Must obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • Possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with P and N endorsements.
  • Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports.
  • Undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Responsibilities

  • Determine applicant qualifications and assess vehicle condition for safe operation
  • Administer commercial and non commercial knowledge, pre trip, skills, and road tests
  • Examine identity documents, verify authenticity, and identify possible fraud
  • Provide licensing services, process applications, and issue license products
  • Follow safety procedures, attend required training, and monitor the testing environment
  • Apply customer service and fee waiver policies and ensure proper documentation
