As a Driver License Examiner w/CDL with the Department of Transportation, Bureau of Driver Licensing, you will help applicants prove their readiness for the road. Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
  • Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • Possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with P and N endorsements.
  • Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports.
  • Undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Employees hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Determine physical qualifications, driving ability, and vehicle safety conditions
  • Conduct vision screenings and knowledge examinations for commercial and non-commercial applicants
  • Administer pre-trip, maneuverability, and road tests according to established standards
  • Review identity and residency documents to confirm authenticity and detect fraud
  • Provide information on licensing processes, renewals, transfers, and credentials
  • Issue driver license and identification card products and complete required transactions
