About The Position

Driver Education Trainer Part-Time Faculty Put your driving expertise in the driver’s seat. Umpqua Community College is hiring a Driver Education Instructor to provide classroom and behind-the-wheel training for young adults at Wolf Creek Job Corps in Glide, Oregon. You’ll teach defensive driving, vehicle safety, licensing requirements, and basic maintenance; develop individual training plans; track progress; and prepare students for Oregon knowledge and drive tests. We’re looking for someone with a valid Oregon driver’s license, clean driving record, strong safety focus, and experience working with young adults or adults in an educational setting. Driver Training Instructor certification is preferred. You’ll work closely with UCC and Job Corps teams in a hands-on, student-focused environment. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Eligible for Driver Training Instructor certification including all of the following (if not already certified):
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Possess a valid Oregon driver’s license
  • Have had valid driving privileges for at least 5 years with a clean driving record
  • Willing to commit to a total of 120 hours of training including full-day weekend classes
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar office software applications
  • Experience with adults or young adults in an educational setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher
  • Possess current Oregon Driver Training Instructor certification
  • Teaching experience in Adult Basic Education or similar program

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and delivers course materials on the fundamentals and basic skills required for the driver education program including defensive driving, safe operation of a motor vehicle, licensing requirements, and routine maintenance and care of motor vehicles.
  • Provides classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel instruction in preparation for the knowledge test and drive test.
  • Establishes individual training plans for each student assigned to the driver education program.
  • Operates driver education vehicles in accordance with all laws, UCC policies, and Job Corps policies, including tracking mileage and following check-out and check-in procedures.
  • Arranges appointments and accompanies students in taking knowledge tests and drive tests at the Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services (DMV) office.
  • Documents student progress, performance, and behaviors according to UCC and Job Corps standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
