About The Position

This position is located in District 3 – Nash County and supports surrounding areas/districts. The role involves training and certifying school bus drivers in both classroom and behind-the-wheel settings. It is responsible for teaching safe driving procedures for school bus driver defensive driving courses, driver improvement clinics, and other safety programs. The specialist will conduct vision and medical screenings for driver education classes, and provide training and certification for commercial driver training instructors. Additionally, the position inspects commercial driver training schools and vehicles for compliance with state and county laws, and investigates complaints involving commercial driver training schools. The role requires completing weekly reports for submission to the central office and maintaining all work-related reports and files. Applicants are subject to a criminal background and motor vehicle records check. The program area includes experience in training and teaching, auditing, driving a bus, working knowledge of DMV or Federal computer programs, and/or inspecting vehicles for CDL Law.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Applicant subject to a criminal background-motor vehicle records check.

  • Experience with Microsoft applications
  • Previously or currently possess a Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a P (Passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsements for at least 2 years
