About The Position

This position picks up and delivers product and equipment between facilities, from donors, and to agencies in a safe, accurate and efficient manner. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is the largest hunger relief organization in Northeast Ohio, providing over 50 million meals in 2024 to those in need across Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Ashland, and Richland counties. Requirements

  • Two to three years of driving experience mandatory.
  • Unencumbered Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B with air brake endorsement required.
  • DOT Medical Certification, required.
  • Tow motor certification required.
  • Required commitment to making interactions across different cultures and backgrounds a strength of our organization as demonstrated through work, life or community experience.
  • Ability to remain in a near constant stationary position.
  • Ability to move about inside the office and to access truck cab and deliver product constantly.
  • Ability to operate a computer or other office productivity machinery constantly.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs to access work spaces constantly.
  • Ability to position or move body to access filing cabinets or other work equipment constantly.
  • Ability to constantly be able to exchange accurate information, take and give direction and hear safety warnings.
  • Distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, distant binocular acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in both eyes with or without corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70° in the horizontal Meridian in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber.
  • Ability to frequently detect spoiled product or quality of meals.
  • Ability to move office equipment/supplies constantly.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Loads all orders on truck for that day's delivery schedule.
  • Assures that orders going on truck are complete and accurate based on the delivery and order reports.
  • Ensures efficient and safe shipping of product to agencies and receiving of products from donors.
  • Distributing to the Fleet Manager, at the end of shift, the required, and correctly filled out paperwork logging the shift activities.
  • Adheres to delivery/pick up schedule, notifying the Fleet Manager of any alterations needed to the schedule.
  • Ensures that product shipped or donated is appropriately transported supporting safe food handling regulations/policies; providing and maintaining superior customer service to the agencies and/or donors.
  • Accurately completes return forms and stage products to be returned in the appropriate storage area based on temperature.
  • Special events product handling and transportation.
  • Maintain unencumbered drivers license; upholding safe driving practices and free from chargeable accidents and/or moving traffic violations. Any citations received reported immediately to the Fleet Manager.
  • Communicates regularly with the Fleet Manager regarding delivery or pickup problems or any other issues that can affect the performance of the fleet.
  • Assists in warehouse environment when schedule slows or as needed.
  • Maintains required job knowledge and skills and core professional competencies. Attends and participates in required educational programs and staff meetings.
  • Pre-trip inspection of fleet vehicle and equipment to ascertain condition, needed changes and/or repairs that are necessary or required, ensuring that trucks and equipment are properly maintained. Reporting to Fleet Manager findings on a daily basis. Fills out the daily Vehicle Inspection Report properly each day.
  • The following of maintenance schedules and fleet housekeeping duties, such as, regular cleaning of vehicles (interior and exterior) on a frequent basis as needed to maintain a clean vehicle for safe food transport.
  • Follows the procedures instructed from training received regarding proper safety techniques (i.e., lifting, safe equipment practices, etc).
  • Actively support and champion initiatives aimed at driving continuous improvement throughout the organization. May participate in one of the following: LEAN council, a kaizen, 5S campaign or other process improvement efforts to support continuous improvement and improved processes within the food bank.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
