About The Position

Vermilion Behavioral Health Systems is seeking a Driver/Behavioral Health Associate responsible for safely transporting patients to and from appointments, activity trips, and other events. This role also involves providing personal care services to patients at the facility under the direction of clinical or nursing leadership. The position requires demonstrating a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers, acknowledging and resolving complaints, and prioritizing patient safety. The work locations are Rue De Belier and University Avenue, and it is a tobacco-free campus.

Requirements

  • Valid State Driver’s License required.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to grasp, squeeze, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, squat, kneel, crawl, reach, and use repetitive arm/wrist/hand movements.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, stand, and walk to ensure patient and staff safety.

  • First aid may be required based on state or facility.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients to and from appointments, activity trips, and other events.
  • Provide personal care services to patients at the facility under the direction of clinical or nursing leadership.
  • Pick up or transport visitors or staff as needed.
  • Transport patients for admissions and discharges.
  • Ensure all passengers are wearing seatbelts before the vehicle is started.
  • Drive company facility vehicle to pick-up supplies or equipment, as needed.
  • Respond and adhere to "on call" schedule as required.
  • Accurately and appropriately complete all transportation documentation.
  • Maintain vehicle log(s) and report maintenance issues to appropriate facility staff.
  • Ensure all company vehicles are kept clean and functional.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always.
  • Acknowledge and work to resolve complaints when patient needs are not met.
  • Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety and provide excellent customer services.
  • Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive and structured environment.
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision at 15-minute intervals, or as per individualized supervision guidelines.
  • Document timely, accurate, and appropriate clinical information in patient's medical record.
  • Assist in providing a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for patients, significant others, and staff.
  • Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.
  • May oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration, and changing bed linens.
  • May obtain patient's vital signs, height, and weight as assigned and document in patient record.
  • Facilitate patient educational-rehabilitative groups covering topics like social skills, coping skills, anger management, and independent living skills.
  • Engage patients in activities and interactions designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.
  • Complete and maintain required documentation.
  • Assist with follow-up and paperwork as required on incidents and events.
  • May provide transportation for patients or coordinate transportation with appropriate staff members.
  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
