Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to obtain a current valid Class A commercial vehicle operators license issued only by one state or jurisdiction
  • Ability to pass DOT Medical Exam and obtain Commercial Motor Vehicle Medical Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Train to safely operate a company vehicle, safely load and properly block, brace and secure the cargo and successfully complete organization's Safety Training
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Some knowledge of computers is necessary
  • Good communications skills are required for dealing with customers, salespeople, contractors, shop personnel as well as WillScot employees at various branch locations
  • Enroll and successfully complete trucking school and achieve a truck driving school certificate from a certified and approved CDL Driver training school
  • Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records
  • No more than 2 moving violations in the past 36 months in any type of motor vehicle
  • Must not have a citation for operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license in the past 36 months
  • Must not have experienced a DOT recordable accident in the previous 36 months in which the driver was cited for a moving violation in connection with a crash, or charged with responsibility for the crash
  • No driving under the influence of alcohol (as prescribed under the law or refusing to test) in the past 7 years
  • No driving under the influence of a controlled substance in the past 7 years
  • No leaving the scene of an accident in the past 7 years
  • No more than one excessive speeding ticket (15 mph or more above the posted limit) in the past 7 years
  • No reckless driving in the past 7 years
  • No moving violation in connection with a fatal accident in the past 7 years
  • No vehicular manslaughter or vehicular homicide in the past 7 years
  • No eluding a police officer in the past 7 years

Nice To Haves

  • May be reduced to 18+ years of age for intrastate drivers only
  • Applicants who possess a valid Class B or C commercial drivers license will be approved at separate levels in the program.
  • Drivers who possess a valid Class A drivers license without experience will be placed in a separate level in the program.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in and completing the requirements of the WillScot Driver Development Program to become a CDL Driver.
  • Driving a truck greater than 3 tons to deliver, relocate, and return units to and from customer locations.
  • Performing set-ups and knockdowns, installing essentials, and maintaining service and safety of units during transportation.
  • Completing On-Time In-Full (OTIF) deliveries, installations, and returns while providing a high level of customer service.
  • Fully complying with all WillScot policies and all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Cleaning, repairing, painting, and performing minor repairs on units to ensure they are in working condition and ready to be rented.
  • Monitoring inventory and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Following program guidelines and achieving milestones throughout the process.
  • Complying with DOT policies and regulations.
  • Acting in accordance with WillScot Safety, Transportation, and Environmental Policies.
  • Promoting employee health and safety results through creating a safer workplace, participating in safety systems as required (Smith System, DuPont STOP, etc.), training and observations, and regularly scheduled assessments of the branch.
  • Attending periodic safety meetings.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Operating company vehicle safely and maintaining a valid driver's license and excellent driving record free from points.
  • Completing training to successfully deliver, install/relocate, and return units from job sites, ultimately hauling all products from storage containers to wide loads; majority of deliveries and pick-ups are local.
  • Maintaining a clean driver's record and diligent attention to safety.
  • Training on set-ups and knockdowns of units, which includes blocking, leveling and anchoring of the trailers during delivery, removal of blocking material and anchoring during pickup; installs tie downs when ordered.
  • Assisting with the loading and unloading of ramps, steps, pads and piers.
  • Maintaining truck log according to DOT state and federal regulations.
  • Maintaining all paperwork, ensuring customer signatures are collected, and daily logs are complete and given to the dispatcher.
  • Maintaining constant contact with the dispatcher to receive pickup and delivery instructions, keeping them informed of any safety or vehicle issues.
  • Training to perform emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, and spark plugs.
  • Completing training to successfully install VAPS (Value Added Products and Services) and/or GLOs (Ground Level Offices) onsite.
  • Ensuring On-Time In-Full (OTIF) Deliveries and Returns.
  • Driving an elevated level of product quality (i.e. <60-day call & First Time Quality).
  • Using Net Promoter System (NPS) feedback to provide timely correspondence and address internal issues.
  • Creating and maintaining good relationships with external and internal customers at all levels of the organization.
