About The Position

This position will be responsible for collecting, testing, documenting, and delivering of bacteriological and new construction samples. It also involves maintaining monthly reports for state and departmental compliance. Responding to customer concerns regarding water quality and/or pressure via phone or in-person. Additionally, responsible for collecting and testing chlorine residuals and other analytical samples associated with the operation of a potable water supply. Assist in allocating and over seeing tasks for operator within the water quality division.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of specialized drinking water quality experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted at the discretion of the Human Resources department.
  • Class "B" Groundwater Operator License.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of backflow principals and devices.
  • Knowledge about water quality and water chemistry.
  • Knowledge of water system operations.
  • Skills in sampling techniques and record keeping.
  • Skills in using Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to organize work assignments and multi-task.
  • Ability to make decisions on data given during emergencies.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting, testing, documenting, and delivering of bacteriological and new construction samples.
  • Maintaining monthly reports for state and departmental compliance.
  • Responding to customer concerns regarding water quality and/or pressure via phone or in-person.
  • Collecting and testing chlorine residuals and other analytical samples associated with the operation of a potable water supply.
  • Assisting in allocating and overseeing tasks for operators within the water quality division.
  • Answering customer complaints regarding water quality and/or pressure by telephone or at residences.
  • Assisting with oversight and performing water quality tests, analyzing water samples, for the State regulated Nitrification Action Plan.
  • Assisting with managing the public water system state monitoring program for the city.
  • Providing technical assistance on written comments to the TCEQ and the US EPA regarding rules that affect the water quality.
  • Providing technical assistance on federal and state regulations regarding drinking water in order to determine the City's course of action.
  • Field evaluating the work of staff to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Collecting daily samples for water analysis.
  • Supporting contractors and other departments during design and construction of water infrastructure.
  • Assisting with DRC review process for water distribution infrastructure.
  • Flushing and activating new line water systems.
  • Inputting data into computer to generate reports for the state.
  • Assisting with monthly hydrant flushing program.
  • Performing water plant operations as assigned and departmental on-call operations duties on a monthly rotation.
  • Performing related work as required.
  • Providing services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City’s citizens.
