Requirements

  • Five to seven (5-7) years of prior experience on a drilling rig; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to be certified in IADC well sharp Drilling Operations Driller and supervisory level courses
  • English language fluency, verbal and written.
  • Acceptable results of a pre-employment background check, credit check and drug/alcohol test.

Responsibilities

  • Train, and supervise employees as necessary to keep fully staffed crew available for assigned tour; Direct drilling crew in setting up and operating power units, draw works, and other drilling equipment; monitor all air-, hydraulic, mechanical-, and electrical-powered rig operations.
  • Operate Drillers console, control panel of brake, clutches, throttles, and cathead by hand and foot monitors gauges to perform all rig operations, including drilling, tripping, and fishing.
  • Operate boom line and air hoist/hydraulic hoists to lift and move heavy supplies, equipment, and pipe.
  • Move casing or drill pipe joints to and from pipe racks, catwalk, ramp, and rig floor as required.
  • Remain alert to underground gas pressure which may lead to blowouts; prevent blowouts by activating emergency control unit if necessary.
  • Keep record of supplies and chemicals used on each shift and reports to management; order supplies, equipment, and material as needed and as authorized.
  • Monitor drilling record; calculate (by hand or machine) mud record, bit record, drilling assembly record, and pipe tally and reports to management.
  • Perform routine and preventive rig servicing, repair, and maintenance, including scrubbing and painting, when operations do not require presence on rig floor.
