About The Position

This position assists drill operators with collecting soil samples in and around the San Antonio area. The helper works under the supervision of the drill operator. Experience is preferred, but on-the-job training is provided.

The work includes assisting with drilling operations and equipment setup, loading and unloading for projects, and preparing and completing boring logs and sample containers before and during fieldwork.

Requirements

• Willingness to work outdoors year-round.
• Ability to repeatedly lift more than 50 pounds.
• Ability to communicate well orally and in writing with personnel.

Responsibilities

• Assist the driller during drilling operations by setting up the drill rig, carrying augers, and connecting them to the drill rig and drill stem.
• Clean split-spoon samplers between sample intervals.
• Shovel auger cuttings during drilling operations.
• Backfill borings at the end of drilling operations.
• Load and unload equipment and materials for drilling projects.
• Prepare boring logs and sample containers before jobs.
• Fill sample containers in the field.
• Complete boring logs in the field.
• Collect samples from the soil sampler.
