About The Position

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Dredge Leverman who can meet the requirements. This position will require frequent travel and reliable transportation, and it is not a live-on-dredge position. Employees are provided with per diem to cover their own lodging expense. Applicants must meet all the listed qualifications to be considered for the position. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their ability to meet and perform these requirements upon hire. The Leverman is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the dredge, as well as the care and maintenance of the dredge and attendant plants and the crew’s safety. The leverman is accountable for the operation of the cutter head swing and spud controls located in the lever room and is responsible for the vessel’s operations during the absence of the dredge captain.

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Two (2) or more years of experience as a Leverman, including hydraulic dredging
  • Excellent safety and mechanical skills
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description
  • Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment screening (drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing
  • Must be authorized to work in the US, this position is not eligible for VISA sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Upholds the Company’s commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practices
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures
  • Works safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPE
  • Ensures team members are provided a safe work environment and are knowledgeable of safe work practices and policies
  • Manipulates various controls, levers, switches, and buttons to activate the cutter head, spuds, and multiple winches to remove sand, clay, rock, and other materials from beneath a body of water
  • Acts as the nerve center of the vessel and sets the pace for the dredging operation by carefully following charts and dredging layout plans, accesses computers and GPS instruments, and monitors the entire dredging process
  • Communicates effectively with the captain and chief
  • Operates the dredging controls and equipment of a Hydraulic Dredge
  • Inspects all gauges and production monitoring equipment to ensure that they are correctly working and reports any problems to the chief and captain
  • Maintains daily sign-in and sign-out logs
  • Completes and updates the complete lever room log and notes each stop, what was accomplished, and the time of the task. The log also includes any obstructions hit, the location and station where the object was encountered, any changes in the nature of the material, and the station where the change occurred
  • Maintains a separate log with instructions given by the customer (COE)
  • Follows digging instructions provided by the captain or the project engineer; any changes from other people are cleared with the captain or project engineer
  • Ensures the ladder spuds and swing shives are greased
