About The Position

The Middle School Drama Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, standards-aligned drama curriculum that fosters creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration in students in grades 6–8. The ideal candidate is passionate about the performing arts, skilled in classroom management, and committed to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Theatre Arts, Drama Education, Performing Arts, or a related field required.
  • Valid state teaching license/certification in Drama, Theatre Arts, or Fine Arts (Middle School level) required.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of classroom teaching experience preferred; student teaching or practicum experience considered.
  • Experience working with middle school-age students strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of theatre arts principles, history, and performance techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet varied learning needs and styles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, staff, and families.
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain an engaging, structured environment.
  • Ability to integrate technology into instruction and use school learning management systems.
  • Collaborative, flexible, and solution-oriented team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging drama lessons aligned with state and district curriculum standards.
  • Teach foundational theatre arts skills, including acting techniques, voice and movement, improvisation, script analysis, and stagecraft.
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate instruction that meets the diverse needs of middle school learners.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through formative and summative assessments; provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grade records, and other required documentation in accordance with school policy.
  • Create and maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment that encourages risk-taking and self-expression.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to support student success across disciplines.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide events as required.
  • Adhere to all school, district, and state policies, including those related to student safety and conduct.
